Arizona and its laws

Arizona's Legislature has passed a controversial bill that would allow business owners, as long as they assert their religious beliefs, to deny service to gay and lesbian customers.

I do not see how this is any different then back in the day when Whites went in the front and blacks had to go around back.

We are all humans and we all should deserve to be treated with decency. I could careless how you live your life, who you love or who you marry, just be true to you and be true to your calling.

Arizona has always been one of those states you really do not want to live in and this is letting us all know with each passing day that it is true... DO NOT MOVE TO ARIZONA.

"It's a very bad day for Arizona," Rep. Chad Campbell, a Phoenix Democrat who voted against the legislation, told CNN Friday.
He added, "Let there be no doubt about what this bill does. It's going to allow people to discriminate against the gay community in Arizona. It goes after unprotected classes of people and we all know that the biggest unprotected class of people in the state is the LBGT community. If we were having this conversation in regard to African-Americans or women, there would be outrage across the country right now."
I would have to agree with Rep. Campbell , we all should be outraged with this bill that was passed today. It seems that we are never happy living and taking care of our own backyards and that we think we need to dictate to people how they can and cannot live.

  1. I have not studied this bill, so I am not speaking with any direct knowledge. If a Muslim or Christian owns a store, I don't believe Arizona could pass a law that says any religious, ethnic, or political group could not shop there. I don't think it's possible. There must be more to the law than that.

Perhaps the law is meant to protect someone like the Christian photographer who simply declined to photograph a same-sex ceremony because that kind of wedding was against their religious beliefs. The photographer was sued because a potential customer called them up, asked them to photograph a wedding, the photographer declines, and when asked why, said it violated their religious beliefs. Perhaps the law is simply intended to provide freedom of religion to those businesses who are now targets for lawsuits because their religious beliefs are no longer mainstream. An independent, self-employed photographer should be able to turn down clients for whatever reasons they like: the drive is too far, I have other plans, etc. They should certainly be able to decline it the event is not something the would feel comfortable at -- for WHATEVER reason: too loud, too sexual, too kiddy, too ritzy, or violates their religious beliefs.

Again, I don't know the particulars of this case, but I feel quite certain Arizona is not saying a public store, restaurant or auto business can turn people away for religious, minority or other reasons.

  2. Yes, the bill needs to be studied more however it clearly states that for religious beliefs of the business owner they my refuse to serve you. Umm why do we need a bill like that. all business have a right to refuse service. if they are gonna let this bill pass then damn let's pass one that says everyone is to be made a millionaire... LOl yes that is about how I feel about this bill. I do not live in Arizona and I feel sorry for all of the people that do, that never asked or cared about ones sexual preference. I think the cold medicine is getting to me..lol
